CIB® – Foxtrot installation modules
The CIB® (Common Installation Bus) extends the Foxtrot system with a range of modules designed specifically for installations in buildings, technologies, and energy systems.
Unlike classic PLC peripherals, CIB is not bound by PLC I/O standards.
It is designed for real-world installations: distributed, combined, and evolving over time.
CIB is where a PLC becomes a system for buildings and energy.
Modules for every part of the installation
CIB modules are available in several designs depending on their place of use:
DIN-rail modules
-
highest number of inputs and outputs
-
manual control buttons for commissioning and service
-
ideal for control cabinets, lighting, blinds, and technologies
Embedded modules
-
small modules for installation boxes or devices
-
typically 1–2 relays, combinations of inputs and outputs
Wall-mounted controllers
-
push-button and touch versions
-
often with integrated sensors (temperature, humidity, CO₂)
-
variants with display or RFID
Outdoor modules
-
protection rating IP57 and higher
-
weather, lighting, and environmental sensors
A different principle than PLC I/O
CIB modules operate on a different logic than classic PLC peripherals:
Fixed factory-set address
-
no configuration during installation
-
address is printed on the module
Universal AI/DI inputs
-
resistance measurement using internal measuring current
-
no external power supply required
-
digital contacts and resistive sensors on a single input
Combination of functions in one module
-
relays + inputs
-
inputs + integrated sensors
-
maximum functionality with minimal wiring
Specialized modules without compromise
CIB also includes a wide range of specialized modules:
Lighting control
-
230 V AC dimming (including challenging LED loads)
-
DC control of LED strips and chips
-
CIB ↔ DALI / DALI-2 conversion
Building energy
-
fast three-phase power meters / power quality meters
-
measurements every 200 ms
-
ideal for sub-metering and EMS
Electromobility
-
controlled EV charging
-
PWM control on the CP contact (CCS)
Why CIB makes sense
CIB is not “just another bus”.
It is an installation ecosystem that makes it possible to:
-
build the system gradually
-
combine control, measurement, and energy management
-
minimize cabling and errors
-
move intelligence closer to the point of action
CIB is what gives Foxtrot its depth and breadth in buildings and energy.
Where to continue
With the CIB® bus, it pays not to rush straight to the catalog.
Its true strength is best understood in the application-oriented sections—based on what you want to control, not which module you are looking for.

👉 Lighting and comfort control
👉 Building energy and energy management
👉 EV charging control
You will learn how individual modules cooperate and how CIB forms a complete system.
If you prefer to go straight to the catalog:
Online B2B catalog – CIB modules are organized as follows
CFox – CIB bus modules
-
CFox – CIB system modules
-
CFox – DIN-rail modules
-
CFox – embedded modules
-
CFox – outdoor modules (IP54 / IP65)
-
CFox – indoor modules
